We went looking for hiking pants with one-star reviews. Not boring one-star reviews. Pants that failed with imagination.
These are ten different ways to lose control of your pants before you lose control of your bowels.
1. Postropaky Womenโs Snow/Ski Pants โ The Pants With a Previous Tenant

According to one verified Amazon reviewer, these arrived with somebody elseโs soiled underwear in the pocket. The pants themselves were apparently fine.
โThere was a pair of soiled underwear in one of the pants pockets.โ
Strong start. Somewhere in the return chain, a human found used underwear and decided this was a problem for the next human.
2. REDCAMP Unisex Rain Pants โ Waterproof Everywhere Except Your Ass

After about three wears, the seam tape reportedly peeled and water started coming through the butt seam.
A rain pant with a sunroof for your ass.
3. TBMPOY Menโs Hiking Work Cargo Pants โ 30 Seconds to Structural Failure

The button reportedly broke in about 30 seconds.
โButton broke in about 30 seconds.โ
The same reviewer compared the fabric to a plastic bag. Finally, pants that respect your time.
4. Gopune Menโs Outdoor Hiking Pants โ The Belt Exists Only in Theory

The product photos showed a belt. The package did not.
โUnbelievable. No belt.โ
Conceptual belt. Very avant-garde.
5. FREE SOLDIER Tactical Pants โ The Iron Man Suit, But Sweaty

One reviewer said the pants were hot, stiff and hard to move in, then supplied the perfect technical summary:
โIts like I’m wearing iron man uniform.โ
Iron Man, but somehow less breathable.
6. Arctix Menโs Essential Snow Pants โ Two Breaks, One Wear

On the first wear, the lining reportedly ripped and the top waist hook broke off.
โPoor Quality! Broke on 1st wear.โ
Two failures. One outing. Efficient.
7. Columbia Saturday Trail Convertible Pants โ Three Pairs, Same Seam

One reviewer bought three colors. All three reportedly ripped at the same seam within two months.
โAll three pairs of pants have ripped at the seam in the same exact spot.โ
At that point it is less a defect than a design language.
8. KรHL Renegade Convertible Pants โ The Warranty Boomerang

A reviewer said his new pair arrived with a stuck leg zipper, loose threads and a ripped seam. He mailed them in under warranty.
โThey sent me the exact same pants back with the same issue.โ
The pants went on a little trip and came home exactly the same.
9. REI Co-op Sahara Convertible Pants โ Duct Tape as a Chafing System

This one is technically a two-star review, but the exposed zipper edge reportedly rubbed the reviewerโs legs raw enough that she did this:
โEnded up putting duct tape over the zippers.โ
Nothing says technical apparel like adding duct tape so it stops eating your legs.
10. REI Co-op Rainier Rain Pants โ Five-Inch Rip, Day Two

On day two, after brushing against a fabric pin, the pants reportedly ripped twice.
โThe second rip was about 5 inches long.โ
By lunchtime, they had installed a five-inch emergency exit.
Ten pants. Ten completely different ways to stop being pants.
If you shit yourself on a hike, pick a pair with a documented structural failure. Plausible deniability matters.
